Rep. Larry Bucshon

On Saturday, February 17th, at a local Republican party breakfast in Evansville, Dr. Richard Moss was heckled, interrupted, and accosted by Dr. Larry Bucshon.

That evening, at approximately 7:31pm The VIP was informed of some of the details of the altercation, implicating that Dr. Bucshon antagonized Dr. Moss during and after his speech, nearly starting what looked to be shaping into an old fashioned fist fight.

On Wednesday, February 21st, The VIP received and published a press release from Dr. Richard Moss concerning those events.

Upon learning about those in attendance, The VIP reached out to get eyewitness reports of the situation.

In an email interview, The VIP reached out to Vanderburgh County Council Candidate, David Christmas (R), to clarify the story surrounding the nearly physical altercation between Congressman Dr. Larry Bucshon and Congressional Candidate Dr. Richard Moss.

The following is that correspondence:

Dear Mr. David Christmas,

It has come to our knowledge, at the Vanderburgh Independent Press (VIP), that after the press release issued by Dr. Richard Moss and published by The VIP, our reporting of the altercation between Congressman Dr. Larry Bucshon and Congressional Candidate Dr. Richard Moss has been called into question.

The press release can be found at this link, and within the article is a video of Dr. Moss speaking in front of the podium while a heckler attempts to interrupt in the background. According to Dr. Moss, the heckler is Dr. Larry Bucshon.

According to comments made on our site by District 75 Representative, Dr. Ron Bacon, and inferences made by other sources, it appears that Dr. Bucshon is telling a different story entirely (as can be expected in any two-sided altercation).

We, at The VIP, are interested in finding the truth… if, indeed, what we have already published is not the truth in its entirety.

David Christmas

We know that you were at the Republican breakfast event as you are running for Vanderburgh County Council, and that you were privy to much of the altercation. As an eyewitness to the happenings at the Republican breakfast, can you give us details about the event that either oppose or corroborate the published account of Dr. Richard Moss?

Is there any validity to the rumors that Dr. Bucshon attempted to incite an aggressive or violent response from Dr. Moss?

Please help us to understand further the events that took place that day.

Thank you so much in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this topic.

The following is the response from Mr. David Christmas, appearing to corroborate Dr. Moss’s story:

Mr. Ary,

I have read the article by Dr. Richard Moss in the link below which is currently published to the VIP website and dated Feb. 21, 2018. With one minor exception, I can say with firsthand knowledge that the events of that morning happened as the article states.

The exception I make is what was said between each person when they were “chest to chest”. I could not hear that precisely, but the Congressman’s demeanor seemed threatening towards candidate Moss for sure.

I was the first to intervene by passing my arm between them in the hopes that no physical contact would occur. I admonished each man that a physical altercation between them would not be good for either and they eventually relented. By this time, other people were also gathering and encouraging an end to the confrontation.

In the spirit of good journalism, you may consider reaching out to others who were there in order to get their take on it also.

Dr. Richard Moss

Sincerely,
David L. Christmas
Evansville, IN

Mr. Christmas, thank you for being a man of integrity, and for keeping the peace at the event. We need more people like you in our community, and in elected offices.

Other nameless witnesses have stated that Bucshon has exhibited similar unbecoming behavior in previous situations, and been accused of “red-faced bullying” in the past.

According to eyewitnesses, it appears that Dr. Moss’s account is true, and that this was one of those situations. The VIP has reached out to other eyewitnesses who attended the event, along with Dr. Bucshon as well… and we await their response.

  1. A hot headed congressman is not good for our 8th District or for Indiana.
