Stumbling to November: Return of the Circular Firing Squad – by Jim Bratten

Jim Bratten

Republicans won the last election but many of them continue to defer to the losers in settling policy concerns, particularly those issues soundly rejected in the last election. GOP establishment types mislead the president, as in the final vote for repeal of Obamacare on the Senate floor in 2017.

Progressives haven’t surrendered because they lost the election; their Deep State remains in control. Their latest effort is to swing enough Republicans over to the idea of amnesty to split the Republican Party. Common sense and reason championed by Trump supporters has already been downplayed and ignored by Republican leadership, willing to assist the losers.

After the 2016 elections the excuses should have dissipated. The GOP now controls the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Yet, the GOP has not repealed Obamacare. It has not stopped massive spending abuse. It hasn’t put forward a balanced budget bill. It still funds Planned Parenthood with taxpayer money, to the tune of $500 million a year. And it hasn’t secured our borders or broomed the Obama cronies who continue to subvert Trump’s border security initiatives.

What has the GOP accomplished in the last 16 months, aside from Trump-driven tax cuts? The GOP Congress had little to do with the slashing of needless regulations. Unbelievably, they have managed to increase the size of our bloated federal government by more than 12%. And they still want us to believe that all will be well if we only reelect GOP incumbents in the November mid-term elections!

Now some House members are trying something really stupid, alienating their base and endangering their prospects for reelection. They fail to understand that there will only be a “blue wave” if they create one by abandoning their principles. But they’re not concerned it seems. It’s all about compassion for “Dreamers” and Democrats.

On May 17 a DACA amnesty “discharge petition” began to wind its way through the House, guided by moderate Republicans and their Democrat comrades, seeking to block Trump’s immigration imperatives by placing a DACA amnesty “stand alone” ahead of border security.

Not knowing she was referring to a Democrat win, the GOP signers of the discharge petition are mindlessly working with Pelosi.

Normally, a discharge petition is created by the opposition party. In this case, the “opposition party” includes Republican moderates voting with Democrats. These GOP House members aren’t interested in what’s good for the country and may end up splitting their political party. The two prime movers in this effort are Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) and Jeff Denham (R-CA), both open borders advocates and DACA supporters.

Image result for obama dacaThe GOP actors in this amnesty move want the spotlight on DACA participants, not the GOP victories under Trump – jobs and the economy. They’re trying to reset the debate on DACA, an unconstitutional executive order by Barack Obama. It’s illegal and should be discarded, not resuscitated for more applicants to sign on. This is a losing issue with the GOP base, those loyal to President Trump and border security, but these GOP dupes are clueless.

As of today, only two Republican signatures are needed to bring the discharge petition to the floor for a vote, and House business resumes this week.

Will sanity prevail to defeat it?
